We will be using two costumes (Elf and Santa), a variety of props (Christmas wreath, Christmas tree, gift box, big bow, toys…) and Caroline’s wide range of poses and facial expressions to create a fun-filled workshop. As a special request by Caroline, we will devote a section of the workshop to using Christmas lights to create interesting effects. We may mix the Christmas lights with additional lighting to see what effects we can produce.

Most of the photoshoot will be on a white background to give Caroline centre stage, but we will use both traditional high-key (well-lit white backdrop) and shadow to give some variety in lighting effects.

What you need to bring

For the gift box (approximately 5″ square box with pull-off-lid), find 5 items (the more unusual the better) for her to react to as surprise gifts. We will augment those with props from the studio.

Your camera must be capable of using a camera-mounted strobe trigger, and should have good noise-handling for the set with Christmas lights. A fast lens would be useful for the Christmas light segment but is not required.

About the Workshop

The workshop will begin at 7:00 with a chance for the photographers to get acquainted with the studio and test their equipment. Caroline will start at 7:30 with a break at 8:30 to change into the second outfit. We will finish the photography portion around 9:30 with the goal of everyone being packed by 10 pm.

The model is being paid so the photographers retain ownership of all images produced. I ask that all photographers upload at least 6 images to the Meetup site within 2 weeks of the photoshoot to help promote these events. The model would appreciate permission to use the photos in her portfolio but that is entirely at the discretion of the photographers. All photographers and the model will be required to sign a paid non-commercial model release, which will be provided at the start of the workshop.

The workshop is being conducted in a small home studio so a maximum of 3 photographers will be permitted. I may step in to capture the occasional image to publish immediately after the photoshoot as promotion for this and future events.

Fees

RSVP opens Thursday, November 28th at 9 pm. Cost is $35/person to cover model fees, pay for props, and cover equipment and site use.
