Time/Date: Sat, Jan 6, 2018 · 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM EST
On Saturday afternoon, 6 TH January, 2018, published model Carmen C. Camacho, with the assistance of photographers John Glenn and David MacKinnon, is offering a lighting workshop on the topic of image projection and light painting on a nude body. Your camera must be able to handle low-light situations using a combination of high ISO and narrow aperture(5.6 or lower). You will also need to bring a tripod for the long-exposure images. Photographer John Glenn is donating the studio space and lighting. David MacKinnon is providing additional lighting and the projection system, as well as donating his time.
The total time for the session will be approximately 3 hours and will start at3:00 PM sharp. The first 15 minutes of each of the two sets will be lighting discussion followed by 45 minutes of shoot (15 minutes per photographer), and 30 minutes of final shots, post-mortem discussion and tear-down. The site closes at 6:00 PM.
Legalities
This workshop will introduce the concept of Right to Publish, part of the triumvirate that includes Copyright (ownership of the pictures you take) andMoral Right (right to the integrity of the images you create). Photographs using digitally-projected images are derivative works, meaning they are built from existing artwork. If you don’t have the right to use the projected images then you do not have Right to Publish. We will avoid this by only using images a) for which the artist has been dead for more than 70 years (copyright has expired), or b) are Creative Commons licensed to allow derivative works(designated CCO, BY, BY-SA, BY-NC, or BY-SA- NC). Attendees are welcome to suggest images but must be able to verify that they meet one of the two conditions above.

About the workshop instructor
David MacKinnon is an Ottawa-area photographic artist who specializes in creative concepts. He has been a model photographer since 2010, many of those years as a member, and sometimes-coordinator, of Ottawa-area Meetups. When not donating his time to coordinate workshops, he is a freelance photographer who provides one-on- one training for new model photographers and portfolio development for aspiring models.
About the host
John Glenn began in photography with a film camera and processing of his own black and white images. He has since traded his film camera for a digital format camera and shoots primarily model and studio photography. He put together a home studio to host and co-host various shoots and Meetups showcasing low-key, high key and studio lighting techniques. He considers photography to be a learning experience and encourages new ideas for shoots.
Cost and Location
The location of the shoot will be emailed to those who have RSVP’d by the closing date. The RSVP will close 3 days before the shoot so that we have time to decide whether there is sufficient interest to run the session. The session will be open to a maximum of 3 photographers at a cost of $80 per person. All fees will go to the model.
