Digital Light Painting

Hosted by: David MacKinnon and Jaime Paquette

Location: D.K. MacKinnon studio, 36 Aldridge Way, Nepean, ON

Date/Time: Thu, Nov 7, 2013 · 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM EST

This is the first of 4 biweekly workshops I will be hosting in November and December.

Join model Jaime Paquette and myself for a unique photography experience. We will be using a digital projector to project images onto our model. The challenge for the model is to mold herself to the projected image to creatively distort the projected image. You can see our previous work together on my web site:

As a photographer, you will be asked to provide at least 5 public-domain images (look for creative commons images with permission to modify, for examples, images found using http://search.creativecommons.org/ ). We will then select from these and other images from my library to create our images. If you need advice on the the types of images, please feel free to ask her and either Jaime or I will respond.

Photographers are to arrive at 7:00 pm so that we can load the images. Some instruction will be provided regarding camera settings and procedure. Jaime will model from 7:30 to 9:30. There will then be a 30 minute post-mortem to discuss what everyone has learned.

The model is being paid for this photoshoot so a non-commercial paid model release will be provided. Photographers are welcome, but not required, to share their images with the model. They are, however, asked to post at least 6 images to this site within 2 weeks of the photo shoot so that others can see your work.

A maximum of 3 photographers can register for this session. The cost of the session is 35$ per person. No strobes or additional lighting equipment is required or will be used during the session, but it is recommended that you use a camera that can produce good-quality images at high ISO (typically 3200 ISO at 1/50 second, lower ISO for “faster” lenses such as 50-mm primes). RSVPs will open at midnight 7 days before the event.

If this concept proves popular then I will run another session in the January-March session.
